Barbaro family is one of the few Italian shipowners that have been active for almost two centuries in the shipping market trading and operating in the refined oil products market.

In the last 30 years Gianni and Alfredo Barbaro have successfully built up companies with the most important players, such as Somocar and Bulkitalia with Coe & Clerici, Finaval, Novamar International with Marnavi, Seachem with Livanos, Petrotank with Premuda and D’Amico, Nord Est with D’Alesio, etc.
At the head of Finaval, Pietro Barbaro Group realized an investment plan of about 500 millions euro taking delivery of nearly 15 new buildings from European Shipyards and created in 2000 a fleet of 25 owned vessels, with a turnover of 150 millions euro and about 1.000 employees.
Barbaro has been the first shipowner in 1989 to order in Europe a double hull aframax oil tanker and the first to obtain ISO 9002 and UNI EN ISO 14001 certifications, foreseeing the world attention on the environmental issues.
